Honenu: Police Wait Six Months To Detain Beit El Resident

mishtaraOn the morning of Tuesday, 16 Tishrei, a Beit El resident was detained on suspicion of involvement with a clash with several Arabs approximately six months ago near Beit El. At a deliberation later the same day the Jerusalem Magistrate Court extended his remand by 48 hours. The police had demanded a six-day extension, until the erev Simchas Torah. During the deliberation it became known that no Arabs were detained on suspicion of involvement with the clash.

Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who is representing the detainee, noted that the police had waited almost six months to detain his client and therefore objected to the demand for a remand extension on the grounds that his client is dangerous.

Hajbi stated that, “My client denies all charges. It is difficult for me to understand the demand by the investigating unit to detain my client for six days over an incident which occurred almost six months ago. I am of the opinion that in the coming days the investigators will understand that my client has no connection to the incident.”
