According to the Shin Bet report cleared for release on Thursday, 18 Tishrei, the Israeli Arab family from Sakhnin that joined ISIS was taken into custody when they returned from Iraq along with their three children last month. The ages of the children are eight, six and three.

Wissam and Sabrin Zabeidat were arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport along with their three children on September 22nd, upon their return from Iraq.

The report states the family traveled to Romania and then made their way to Turkey for a family event. While there, they met another Israeli Arab who joined ISIS back in 2013. This person assisted them in making their way to Syria where they too were recruited and their Israeli passports were confiscated. Wissam traveled along to Iraq, where he received additional indoctrination and training while his family remained in Syria.

It is added that numerous attempts to make their way back from Syria to Turkey failed, compelling them to pay smugglers to assist them in returning to Israel. When they finally succeeded in entering Turkey they were taken into custody and placed in a detention facility. After being released they headed back home and were taken into custody in Ben-Gurion International Airport. The suspects were indicted in a Haifa court on charges including membership in a terrorist organization and traveling to an enemy nation”.
