Shabbos Storm Brought Badly Needed Rainfall To Areas Of Eretz Yisrael

rainHeavy rainfall fell around Israel on Shabbos, bringing badly-needed rainfall to the nation.

Northern and Central areas:

Rainfall in the northern Golan Heights was the heaviest seen in over the past four years in measuring rainstorms. In Kibbutz El Rom 182mm (7.16 inches) of rainfall was measured. In Kibbutz Ein Ziv, Friday’s rainfall was the heaviest in a day in over 22 years, measuring 102mm (4 inches) in a 24-hour period.

However, that area is so dry from years of insufficient rainfall, the strong Shabbos rains did not result in the streams in the Golan to begin running again.

The Kinneret gained 5cm (1.96 inches) as a result of the rainfall and now measures at -213.79 meters which means the Kinneret needs another 4.00 (4.37 yards) meters of water.

  1. The rain was mostly on Friday, 2 Kislev, the Yahrzeit of Rav Aharon Kotler, ztl. It’s told that at the time of his burial there had been a severe drought and so the Chevra Kadisha buried him with a wet towel draped over his harm as a sign that rain was needed (following an old custom), and that afterwards there was very heavy rainful for a full 24 hours just within the boundaries of Eretz Yisroel and not outside of them. In the 34 years I’m in Eretz Yisroel I’ve noticed heavy rains on his yahrzeit a number of times. May his merit protect us.
