Agreement Between Litzman And Degel Hatorah

1Health Minister Yaakov Litzman and Education Minister Naftali Bennet have been championing the battle to change school menus, to introduce healthier foods into the nation’s schools. However, frum schools have objected unless a special budget is being provided due to the additional costs involved.

The dispute inside Yahadut Hatorah has become significant, led by MK Yaakov Asher, who explains there is not enough money for the frum schools to being increasing the food budget.

Kikar News now reports that last week, Litzman attended a secret meeting in Yerushalayim attended by Rav Yitzchok Goldknoff and local Degel Hatorah-affiliated rabbonim including HaGaon HaRav Cohen Shlita (Rosh Yeshivas Chevron), HaGaon HaRav Solovechik Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Chevroni Shlita. it was decided the matter of the healthy food would not be on the Knesset docket until a committee reports it has received a majority for the introduction of the plan. It is reported that Rabbi Yosef Schlesinger mediated between the parties.

It was decided changes will be made when there is mutual agreement and unilateral decisions will not be imposed on the frum schools.

  1. So the frum schools want to keep feeding their talmidim fatty, starchy and salty junk food unless the government pays the cost of switching over to healthy food. What a joke….daas torah says u’shamartem es nafshosechem….I guess that doesn’t apply to the most vulnerable segments of the chareidi tzibur who truly believe that junk food from the alte heim is torah moshe mi’sinai…

  2. In case you don’t get it, Godolhadorah, can’t you see what it says?
“MK Yaakov Asher… explains there is not enough money for the frum schools to [enable them to increase] the food budget”
Why do you always need to attack frum people? If you really want to, go on to Ha’aretz and do it there.

  3. @Godolhadorah We look forward to your generous donation to these schools to fund this extra expense, many of whom cannot make the salary budget most months.

Meanwhile, back in the real world if I don’t like what the school serves my kids, I send them in send with a prepacked healthy lunch.
