FYI the draft laws in Israel are very strict. Once a boy who is in yeshiva (and applies for a deferment), turns 16, he is not allowed to work or leave the country!! NO EXCEPTIONS! This included me an American who’s family made aliya. When my family went in to the US for Pesach I WAS NOT ABLE TO JOIN THEM. Does that make sense?

YITZCHOK -because there is a process, you cant just go around arresting people.

I think this Uman business should be discontinued, I highly doubt this is what R’ Nachman had in mind (esp. on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur) and it is definitely not doing anything for his memory.

The revised version is that the numbers were 160 people, not as a result of a “raid” but as they were leaving the country, with most for military offenses (probably yeshiva students who didn’t do the right paperwork for an exemption) or from the “Executions office” (they had judgements pending against them). This comes to under 1% of the people who made the trip.

The revised article said that two drunks were arrested on a return flight (after the flight crew filed a complaint).

i cant understand why everyone is so negative towards the uman ‘pilgrims’
