What would be the reason for the bank to take the Sifrei Torah? To collect debt? Are they assuming they will be able to sell it to recover money? When was the last time someone bought a Sefer Torah from the bank?

If the bank was a bad steward of their shareholders’ trust, they would make loans and look the other way when they weren’t repaid.

If the borrower was a good citizen, they would honor their payment schedule.

And yet, this article paints the borrowers as victims and the victim (the bank) as oppressive. I’m afraid that this whole episode is not a kiddush Hashem.

Maybe Larry King will pay off the loan for them.

The bank is as evil as can be. Look what the bank manager was saying- all he cares about it the money and he will take the Torahs by force!

the sifrei tora was never put up for collateral. it was just the shul which took out the loan and they are suing the shul

Terrible – Wouldn’t it have to be that the shul put up the Sifrei Torah as collateral? Is that allowed?

When you put something up as collateral & you CH’V can’t pay the loan, you have to expect the bank to seize the collateral. And, YES, I feel TERRIBLE for them!
