I've published two papers related to cogntive reserve:

Hall CB, Derby CA, LeValley AJ, Katz MJ, Verghese J, Lipton RB. Education delays accelerated decline on a memory test in persons who develop dementia. Neurology 69:1657–1664, 2007.

Hall CB, Lipton RB, Sliwinski M, Katz MJ, Derby C, Verghese J. Cognitive activities delay onset of memory decline in persons who develop dementia. Neurology 73(5):356-361, 2009.

Results from these observational studies need to be confirmed through interventional studies. Unfortunately, there is currently no treatment that slows the progression of Alzheimer's disease pathology. Also unfortunately, there is less and less money available for aging research.
