Israel’s Council Of Higher Education Recommends Limited Gender Segregation

As the number of chareidim seeking higher education in Israel continues to grow, the Council of Higher Education is recommending universities offer gender-separate classrooms, which already exist in exclusively chareidi institutions.

According to a Haaretz report published on Wednesday, 23 Nissan, the move is an effort to accommodate chareidim in regular institutions of higher learning. There are similar requests for increased gender segregation for advanced degrees, and not just for undergraduate studies.

However, some non-chareidi female lecturers may feel this separation would harm them while others opine the social and academic benefits of the program far outweigh this potential harm.
