Jet Engines Stolen from IAF Base

It is difficult to envision just how one makes off with the engine of an F-16 fighter plane, but according to a Walla News reports, a number of the engines from fighter planes disappeared from an Israel Air Force base in the center of the country.

The report quotes senior air force officials pointing in the direction of base personnel as being involved in the heist for a number of reasons, including the fact there is no break in the security fence. Based on preliminary findings, it appears the thieves entered an entrance of the base. Investigators also point out that the thieves had to have had a large vehicle to transport the engines out.

The base commander immediately notified military police upon realizing the engines were missing. All avenues are being investigated; including the fact the thieves were simply metal thieves or possibly civilian IAF employees assigned to the base. Officials indicate this is the first case of a theft of airplane engines in the military’s history.
