Knesset Legislative Committee Approves Amended Draft Bill

The Ministerial Legislative Committee headed by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked on Monday, 25 Adar, passed the new conscription law in its new format as was hoped would occur. Minister (Yisrael Beitenu) Sofia Landver voted against it.

With the passing of the bill by the ministerial committee, and the chareidim on board, there is now an air of cautious optimism that early elections will be avoided. However, it appears it is now entirely up to Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who vowed to topple the government if any form of the conscription law if presented as was the case. Lieberman feels IDF commander and not rabbonim must determine the nature of a new draft law.

Coalition members are now waiting for Lieberman’s reaction.
