The IDF Spokesman’s Office released the following to provide us with a glimpse of the vast effort involved in ‘turning over’ the IDF from chametz to Pesach. The IDF Central Distribution Center is preparing in a big way for Seder night and the entire week of Pesach.
To meet its demands, the IDF purchased 73.5 tons of matzos, 264 tons of poultry and meats, 48 tons of schnitzel, and 27,400 individual charoset sets. For dessert, 14,000 tons of bittersweet chocolate for spreading and 7.5 tons of cakes and cookies.
Other Pesach items that will be distributed include 13.5 tons of different Pesach flours, 230,000 Pesach rolls, 23,000 ‘kuftaot’ made from matza meal.
For soldiers in operational situations, including pill boxes and other posts in the field, the IDF Rabbinate will provide 4,800 personal Seder kits containing everything a soldier needs for the mitzvos of the night.
This year too, a full response will be given to vegan soldiers who are sensitive to gluten and allergens on the basis of kosher dishes for Passover. Vegan soldiers will also receive daily kosher Pesach items for legume eaters approved by the IDF Rabbinate and the Chief Military Nutritionist.
In addition, a bread-like pastry will be issued for Shabbos before Pesach.
On erev Yomtov, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott and Chief of Personnel Branch Major-General Moti Almoz will meet with 400 lone soldiers who will be spending Seder night in the “יחד למען החייל” vacation village located in Givat Olga. This will be the 18th consecutive year lone soldiers enjoy Seder in this special setting.
