Otzma Yisrael Takes its Case to the High Court of Justice

The Otzma Yisrael Party has turned to the High Court of Justice in the hope of reversing a Central Election Committee decision disqualifying portions of its election infomercials.

Party officials are angered over the election committee decision labeling its advert offensive, for they feel there is nothing wrong with connecting one’s rights to state services with one’s responsibilities to the state. Some of the portions of the party’s ads viewed as objectionable by the election committee include “In [the Israeli Arab municipality of] Sakhnin not everyone pays arnona [property tax].”

“In eastern Jerusalem, they mock the law and in Taibeh and the Negev, they continue building illegal villas” but Otzma Yisrael officials feel they are simply telling it as it is. They feel the election committee chairman; High Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein is discriminating against their party and party officials hope the High Court will reverse the decision.
