Litzman: Cannabis is a Drug

Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman spoke at the inauguration of the new medical clinic of the HMO Leumit in Beit Shemesh on Thursday and said: “Don’t be fooled, Cannabis is a drug and it is prohibited to take it.”

Litzman was responding to a question posed from the crowd regarding why the pharmacy chain, Superpharm, in Beit Shemesh doesn’t carry the medicinal dosages of cannabis.

“It is an illegal drug like any other,” Litzman clarified to the crowd. “What I did, was not to allow the use or consumption of cannabis, but rather to create an environment in which those who need the drug for medicine will not have to wait for months on end to get it.”

Litzman explained one of the problems with selling the drug even for medicinal use. “Sadly, a trend has developed in which young people steal the drug from the old and sell it to make money. We need to straighten this situation out and we are working to do so.”

  1. Cannabis is a drug and dangerous for normal well people to use. However a friend of mine had a very painful bone disorder and only was able to function by using morphine. He is no longer with us.

There is a time and place for everything.
