There are few other building that government owns. Fire stations tend to have little parking, and one can’t close the fire station on election day. There aren’t all that many public recreation centers or armories. The alternative would be in commercial space (shopping centers?) or churches. Schools are ideal places for voting. We could switch to mail or internet voting, but that is likely to result in massive fraud (which would probably benefit the Democrats since they are the party that is historically involved in vote fraud, especially in the big cities on the snowbelt).

Anyone can vote by mail–just request an absentee ballot. They might move elections to churches, which presents halachic problems.

It should be noted that in Australia elections are held on Saturday, polls close at 6, and voting is compulsory. However, polling places are open for a week prior to election day and voting early is permitted.

Whats the big deal re security.
Every two years cancel classes for one day in November, or better yet, make it a ped day and the kids have off for a full day anyways.

The answer is to get rid of in-person voting and move to vote-by-mail. About half the states allow it as an option and in Oregon and Washington all elections are conducted by mail.
