Israel: 29 Percent Believe Netanyahu will Bring Peace


netanyahu_bibi.jpgAccording to a Harry Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem poll, of the candidates running for prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu enjoys the greatest support among voters asked which candidate will bring peace to the region, 29%.

The Israeli public interviewed taking part in the poll feel the opposition leader is best qualified to actualize a peace agreement between Israel, the PA (Palestinian Authority) and Syria. Tzipi Livni received 16% and Labor leader Ehud Barak, 9%.

When asked who they would elect as prime minister, the results were similar with Netanyahu in the lead with 30%, Livni 19% and Barak 11%.

When asked if giving away the Golan Heights in a peace agreement with Syria was brought to a national referendum, a resounding 64% of respondents stated they would oppose the deal. 25% expressed support. If Syria announced a willingness to cut ties with Hizbullah and Syria, then support for such a move increased to 31%.

Carried out in conjunction with a Ramallah-based research institute, the poll also reveals that 78% of the Israeli public supports the release of convicted Fatah Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti, who is serving multiple life terms in an Israeli prison, in a deal for Gilad Shalit.

Among the PA (Palestinian Authority) population, 74% support kidnapping IDF soldiers. 59% of the PA population feels the best way to achieve the release of prisoners by Israel is to reach a peace agreement while 57% of Israelis support direct talks with Hamas.

    The rest of klal yisroel who live chutz leretz are busy with agri meats, kosher phones, politicians who are running, and buying school supplies.

  2. Netanyahu would be good. But I dont understand why this whole propaganda continues that there is something Israel has to do to bring peace from animals.

    Every politician in America sounds off that Israel is a sovereign nation with defensible borders. YET, Israel continues to be bloodily badgered by the arabs and Bush is more concerned about posturing in defense of Georgia.
