*Chawarah Checkpoint in Shomron: Security forces apprehended a terrorist carrying an explosive device. No injuries.

*Firemen on Shabbos extinguished a blaze in a Tzfas candle factory. There were no injuries.

*Rioting began on erev Shabbos near the American Consulate in eastern Yerushalayim apparently over a dispute between Arabs regarding an internal local bus line. Crowds gathered and rocks began to fly. Security forces responded with gunfire. Nine were injured, 4 light-to-moderate and the remainder light.

*PA security forces have deployed in the Chevron area. Israel justifies approving the move as one that will give a stronger power base to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) in order to keep Hamas’ influence from spreading in the area.

*PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) canceled a meeting with PM Olmert scheduled for Monday explaining such a meeting would give the appearance that he is interfering in Israel’s local political arena.

*PA sources report two terrorists wounded in a clash with soldiers in the el-Fara area in the Shechem district.

*Nobel Peace Prize laureate, former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari called the situation in the Mideast “a disgrace,” questioning why the international community has not intervened to bring peace to the region. He told Swedish radio that he does not understand why America or Europe has not managed to end the conflict.

*4 people were killed on erev Shabbos in a small plane crash in the Sharon region. The casualties only involved person on the small aircraft.

*Kadima officials are beginning to wash the party’s dirty laundry publicly as they are angered over Premier-designate Tzipi Livni’s inability to establish a coalition government.

*Mohammad al-Badan, the terrorist who perpetrated the fatal stabbing attack in Gilo last week, told interrogators he bought the knife for the attack that morning. He also stated he was acting alone although security officials now report his family has affiliations with the Islamic Jihad.
