Addressing the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee on Tuesday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi explained that he does not believe that at present, Hamas is seeking to escalate the situation in Gaza.
Nevertheless he explained, the Hamas regimes is not doing enough to halt renewed rocket fire, and from Israel’s perspective, Hamas leaders must be held accountable for every rocket coming over the border since the Hamas regime maintains total control over Gaza.
