Israel: Exams Eliminated For Those Whose License Has Been Suspended

mishThe Knesset Ombudsman Committee headed by MK Yisrael Eichler held a discussion on the regulation compelling one whose drivers license is suspended to pass a theory and practical exam. This applies to a driver whose license has been suspended for over two years. As a result of the committee’s discussion, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz signed an order to cancel these requirements. The new situation is effective immediately.

The cancelation of Regulation 172 will also assist citizens who did not renew their license for a year for one reason or another. From now on, they too will not be compelled to pass a theory and practical exam to get their license back.

Eichler thanked Katz, explaining for most persons, the old regulations just resulted in significant additional expense and for many, they could not amass the sum needed to take the exams to get their licenses back. This will eliminate spending thousands of shekels for review driving lessons and didactic review.
