Statement By President Obama On Israel Independence Day

On the 62nd Anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, I join the American people in congratulating the government and people of Israel on this celebration of their independence. Minutes after David Ben-Gurion declared Israel’s independence, realizing the dream of a state for the Jewish people in their historic homeland, the United States became the first country to recognize Israel.

To this day, we continue to share a strong, unbreakable bond of friendship between our two nations, anchored by the United States’ enduring commitment to Israel’s security. Israel remains our important partner and key strategic ally in the Middle East, and I am confident that our special relationship will only be strengthened in the months and years to come.

I look forward to continuing our efforts with Israel to achieve comprehensive peace and security in the region, including a two-state solution, and to working together to counter the forces that threaten Israel, the United States, and the world.

On this day, we once again honor the extraordinary achievements of the people of Israel, and their deep and abiding friendship with the American people.

I offer my best wishes to President Peres, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the people of Israel as they celebrate this happy occasion.

  1. AIN LUNU AL ME L’HISHUEN ELUH AL UVINU SHBASHAMAYIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE HAVE NOONE ON WHOM TO RELY ONLY ON OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. “I offer my best wishes to President Peres, Prime Minister Netanyahu,”

Isn’t it strange that he put Peres first. It seems like he is distancing himself from the Netanyahu who is more conservative, and emphasizing Peres who shares many of Obama’s views regarding a Palestinian solution.

  3. #3 That is one of the stupidest and most baseless comments I have seen thus far on yeshiva world. Peres is the official Israeli figurehead.

  4. Halelujah, did you mean #2 instead of #3?

And to the real #2, here’s your answer: This shoyteh (Obama) can’t figure out that in some non-USA countries (Israel, some European nations, etc.), the president ISN’T (repeat, ISN’T, or should I say, AIN’T) the highest ranking officer of the country!

  5. “To this day, we continue to share a strong, unbreakable bond of friendship between our two nations” – YAEH RIGHT! STRONG UNBREAKABLE BOND? DOES HE MEAN HIMSELF OR MAYBE HE MEANS MRS. EGONESS CLINTON? WHO WROTE THIS GARBAGE FOR HUSSEIN?

“…anchored by the United States’ enduring commitment to Israel’s security.” NO BODY DOES ANYTHING FOR FREE – YOU SCRATCH MY BACK, AND I’LL SCRATCH YOURS WITH A LOT OF CONTINGENCIES!

“and to working together to counter the forces that threaten Israel” – EXACTLY! WE WILL SIT BACK AND IGNOR THE WARNINGS COMING FROM IRAN SAYING THEY WILL NOT HAVE NUKES FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR – GREAT STRATEGY!

    P.S. – #5 I’M SURE YOUR COMMENT WAS DIRECTED AT #2 AND NOT #3 (BECAUSE THAT’S YOU)

BUT WHY ARE YOU SO HARSH WITH YOUR FELLOW YIDDEN? THERE ARE PLENTY OF SONEI YISROEL TO BE HARSH WITH. LIGHTEN UP 🙂

  6. From the Wikipedia article on the Israeli Order of Precedence:

The Israeli Ceremonial Protocol does not define an order of precedence. It does define, however, the group of officials that are to attend ceremonial events (Hebrew: Segel Aleph, סגל א’). This group consists of:

    1. The President of Israel (נשיא מדינת ישראל, currently Shimon Peres)
    2. The Prime Minister of Israel (ראש ממשלת ישראל, currently Binyamin Netanyahu)

The list goes on from there goes on from there. I disagree that this was the stupidest or most baseless thing posted on this site (really that’s a very high bar at this point), but its not like figuring out that Obama was following protocol and not slighting anyone took all that much research.

  7. There is no question of his bias and hatred but he also knows history quite well as to what happens to previous presidents that have turned against Israel.

  8. Ok, left out the relevant part of this. Sorry. As near as I can tell Wikipedia’s order (head of state before head of government) is the order of every country where those positions are split. Think of who you would name first if you referred to Queen Elizabeth and Gordon Brown.
