Escalating War of Words Between Israel and Syria

Responding to Israeli statements last week, Syria is returning the ball to Israel’s court, with a “source close to Syrian leadership” warning Israel of Damascus’ ability to fire of rockets daily into Israel.

According to a report appearing in the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper on Saturday, a source close to the Syrian “decision-makers” stated that if Israel launches an attack involving non-conventional weaponry, Syria will send Israel back into the ‘pre-historic era’.

The Sunday Times quoted an Israeli minister as saying that if Hizbullah launches a missile attack against Israel, the terrorist organization would be sent back to the “stone age”, prompting the response.

According to the report, the unnamed official explains that despite the fact Syria has not been in a war with Israel since 1973, it has not been sitting idly by, explaining Damascus has developed advanced weapons which will be used against Israel should the need arise. He added Syrian forces can fire 600 missiles into Israel daily.

Terrorist Ghaleb Abu Zainab, described as a member of Hizbullah’s politburo, told reporters that the controversy over reports of Syria providing Scud missiles to Hizbullah is a simple diversionary tactic by Israel to shift world attention from Jerusalem’s “violations against the Palestinians”.

He added that Hizbullah is perfectly capable of defending Lebanon without Scuds and while he does not believe an Israeli offensive is imminent; Hizbullah stands ready for any eventuality.
