I fully agree that drunk driving is a terrible problem; but that doesn't make just drinking wrong. Actually, there is a chiyuv to do so.

I know the writer. I was there. This fellow was sprawled out all over the floor in the most disgusting manner, completely limp, like a drug addict. He smelled of strongly of alcohol and, if I recall correctly, was drooling. Completely stoned. He then nearly vomited over the whole place and was unceremoniously tossed outside, where he proceeded to retch all over the sidewalk.

I've seen many similar scenes in Lakewood, as I'm sure you have.

Mrs. S. is simply pointing out that if parents do not want their sons to appear likewise they should take prior action. Just because a parent is 8,000 kilometers from their son does not mean that they relinquish responsibility.

Dear Mrs S,

From your "outrageous" story the only horrific details i can garner are that you were scared that he would throw up in your BROTHERS house. I understand your fears about your children, but there are a few things you have to understand.
1: Rabbeim appreciate when their talmidim present or former visit them, especially on purim. (It is a halachic obligation for a talmid to visit his rebbe at certain times of the year, Purim included.
2: Anybody accepting bochurim or adults too for that matter into their house on Purim is accepting the possibility of having somebody fall asleep on the floor.
Not only is it a chiyuv to drink wine on purim (see Shulchan Aruch O.C. 695:2), but it also says (ibid) that one who damages somebody (only accidentally) after drinking on purim is not obligated to pay damages.
3: If this is your Purim complaint you should say "Thank you Hashem"! for giving me such a peaceful, uneventful, happy purim. Purim is the one day a year that a jew may drink alot, be thankful that nothing worse happened to you or that boy.

Hope you have a happy joyful Purim this year!
