Ramapo: House Fire On Route 59


fire - sifrei torah burnedAt approximately 0222 hrs. the Town of Ramapo Police Dept. received a report of a structure fire at 363 Rt. 59, Suffern, NY in the Village of Airmont. Town of Ramapo officers arrived at the address a confirmed abandoned house.

Tallman F.D. arrived and began to extinguish the fire and confirm no one was in the residence.

Tallman F.D. with the assistance of the Suffern, and Monsey Volunteer fire Departments extinguished the fire. Also assisting at the scene was Ramapo Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corp., and Rockland Paramedics. The Village of Airmont Fire Inspector, Rockland County Sheriffs B.C.I. Arson Unit and Town of Ramapo Police detectives were also detailed to the scene to investigate the cause of the suspicious blaze.

The fire was called in by a pedestrian who was walking east on Route 59. He stated he heard some noise and observed a white male leaving the property on foot. The unknown male was last seen walking west along Rt. 59. Ramapo Police checked the surrounding area and was unable to find anyone matching the description supplied by the caller.

Route 59 between College Rd, and Cherry Lane was closed down for about 2 hours in both directions. No emergency service personnel were hurt during this incident.

The owner of the property a Harvey Waxman, ZIM Holding Co. of Monsey, NY was contacted and advised of the fire.
