Schumer Surveys Storm Damage At Coney Island Hospital

State Sen. Chuck Schumer was in Brooklyn Tuesday to assess the damage Superstorm Sandy left behind at Coney Island Hospital.

Floodwaters affected the elevators, outpatient service areas and the emergency room at the medical center. The city’s Health and Hospital’s Corporation estimates that it will need more than $800 million for repairs at hospitals hit hardest by the storm.

If Congress passes a $51 billion aid package this month, million of dollars will go toward the recovery at hospitals for cleanup, new equipment and preparations for another disaster.

President Barack Obama has already signed a $9.7 billion aid bill. Schumer says he hopes the next one will hit the president’s desk in about two weeks.
