NYPD brutality complaints down, thanks to Sandy

The New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board is apparently dealing with far fewer complaints against the NYPD, but it’s not due to any sudden change in police behavior.

It’s because Superstorm Sandy knocked out the toll-free hotline that people use to file those complaints.

The typical month sees around 250 complaints, but that’s dropped to just 29 a month since the storm.

Verizon just got the phone line reactivated this week, so the numbers could spike.
