Brooklyn: DA Announces 25 Years-to-life in Prison Sentence for Daniel Ignacio for Setting a Fire that Killed Five People


fdnyKings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes today announced the sentence of Daniel Ignacio, 31, to 25 years-to-life in prison for setting an arson fire that killed five people in a Bensonhurst apartment building in 2010. A jury convicted him on March 12, 2013 of five counts of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Arson in the Fourth Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree, and nine counts of Assault in the Second Degree. He was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Neil Firetog.

On January 30, 2010, Ignacio started a fire in the vestibule of an apartment building on 86th Street, where he lived on the second floor. He lit a roll of toilet paper that was soaked with flammable liquid, and threw it in an empty baby carriage. He then went upstairs to his apartment. Shortly after, the building went up in flames, killing five of his neighbors.
