obcThree of the New York area’s major bridges are set for facelifts totaling nearly $3 billion over the next few years.

Contracts for the Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing are expected to be approved by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at its monthly board meeting Wednesday.

A $1.3 billion project will raise the roadway of the Bayonne Bridge by 64 feet to accommodate bigger cargo ships from the expanded Panama Canal by 2015.
