CD48 – 1199 SEIU Union Endorses Ari Kagan For City Council

flagIn the race for 48th Council District in southern Brooklyn, 1199SEIU has endorsed Ari Kagan. 1199SEIU is the largest union in New York City, representing over 220,000 nurses and caregivers working in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home care programs. Last year, Kagan defeated a long serving incumbent to become Democratic District in the 45th Assembly District, which overlaps significantly with the 48th Council District, earning 62% of that vote.

“As a journalist and community leader, Ari Kagan has always been a strong, vocal supporter of access to quality healthcare, caregivers, and all working families,” said Kevin Finnegan, Political Director of 1199SEIU. “Ari has demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues facing healthcare workers and a heartfelt commitment to improving the lives of our members and all working New Yorkers. It is our pleasure to enthusiastically endorse his candidacy, and will work hard to ensure he is the next Councilman representing the 48th Council District.”

“Healthcare workers play a vital role in our communities, and they deserve our support and respect,” said Kagan. “Like so many families throughout New York, my family is personally indebted to the hard work of 1199SEIU and its members, and I will always support their fight for fair wages, benefits and working conditions. 1199SEIU members are amongst the most active and engaged members of our community, and I’m honored they’re endorsing my campaign. I look forward to working with them in the City Council to make our community a better place to live for working families, seniors and everyone in between. SEIU1199 has a well deserved reputation for working with all our diverse communities throughout New York City.”
