NYC: Hot & Humid Conditions Continue, Showers and Thunderstorms Saturday


Hot and humid conditions continue through Friday and possibly until Saturday. Dry conditions are expected today. There is an isolated chance of an afternoon or evening shower and thunderstorm on Thursday and Friday.

A cold front moves into the area on Saturday bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms. There is a potential for severe weather on Saturday with the biggest threat being damaging winds.

Temperatures
Today: High temperatures in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices of 99-103.
Friday: High temperatures 93-99 degrees with heat indices of 100-104 degrees. There is a low chance of heat indices reaching 105 degrees.
Saturday: High temperatures 90-93 degrees with heat indices of 94-100 degrees.

Precipitation and Timing
A cold front will move into the area Saturday bringing showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and into the overnight hours.  A total of 1/3 to 2/3 of rain is expected with locally higher amounts possible. There is a slight risk of severe weather associated with this system, the biggest threat will be heavy rain and strong winds. One inch per hour rainfall rates are not expected for a full hour.
