WSYR: New York City Police have gotten their first first Hasidic Jew. Joel Witriol was sworn in yesterday to the Police Academy with 134 others. The 24-year-old has been an auxilliary officer in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He will go through a six-month training program before graduating in December. Because of his religion, Witriol will need exemptions for hairstyle rules, so he can keep his beard and side locks.
