  1. As a recent graduate from Yavne Seminary I had the Zechus of learning under this great woman. She was an Eishes Chayil in every sense of the word and a Mechaneches par excellance (probably the greatest of this generation). A little hint as to her greatness is by looking at her children -who where her greatest pride and joy – and sons-in-law which include R’ Herzka (Lakewood) R’ Brog (Cleveland) R’ Bussel (Edison) R’ Schulman (E”Y). Unfortunately this generation has lost a true woman of valor, a link to the Alte Heim, and someone who was a Marbitz Torah through her sons, sons-in-law and husband.
Her father was Hagoan R’ Elya Meir Bloch

  2. Yes,the Rebbitsen has illustrious Yichus from her saintly father Horav Avrohom Yitscok Bloch ZTL.But her great legacy will be that all her children (including daughters) and her sons-in-law and already many grandchildren are Marbetsey Torah!

  3. In 1940, Rabbi Sorotzkin married Rachel Bloch, daughter of the Telzer Rav and Rosh Yeshivah, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Bloch. Rabbi Sorotzkin and his wife fled Europe at the start of World War Two and made their way to the United States. There, they joined his wife’s uncles (and his own cousins) Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Bloch and Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Katz who had re-established the Telz Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio.

  4. I had the Zechus of learning under under Rebittzen Sorotzkin a”h last year in Yavne Seminary. The pride she took in her husband Ztz”l and her son’s and sons-in-law’s Torah was something to be admired. She was an Eishes Chayil to the enth degree and a Mechaneches par excellance (probably one of the greatest in this generation. Klall Yisroel has unfortunately lost an Eisha Gedola and a link to the Alte Heim and generations of yesteryear. She is survived by 3 sons who are Roshei Yeshiva, 3 daughters who’s husbands are Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshiva (& a daughter Rebbetzin Rassi Bussel a”h) and hundreds & hundreds of talmidim of her husband’s, sons, and sons-in-law who’s Torah can be contributed to her. Sheli V’Shelahen Shela He. Hamakom Yinachem Eschem B’soch Sha’ar Aveiley Tzion V’yerushalayim.

  5. Herzka is the principal of Bais Yaakov D’rav Meir High School in Brooklyn, NY and lives in Lakewood, Nj.
    Brog lives in Cleveland.

  6. Her true Yichus was yichus attzmi- she was an isha gedolah in her own right- a mechaneches par excellance, a great teacher, a very wise woman, a torah scholar, a baalas middos tovos, and a role model to all who knew her. May she be melamed zchus for all of us.

  7. Her real legacy will live on in her grandchildren. She was zocheh to have a very chosheve grandson who became a rov and has a flourishing minyan and a rosh kollel the lutzker rav

  8. I don’t think this needs to be mentioned, but what we lost is someone who was raised by a father who was a gadol b’Torah, who grandfather and great grandfather was a gadol b’Torah, whose husband was a gadol b’Torah, and who has R’ Yitzchok, among others, who are gedolei Torah. Many of her eineklach through marriage (Burstyn, for example) are very Choshuv. Some of the Busel boys are litterally unbelievable. But that is aside from the point. She came from something that is lost. Gone. And as hard as we try, we lack the context to understand what she has seen and experienced. She had the greatness to transmute what she saw in all that she did, all that she was, and into the majority of her family.

    That is amazing.
