Boruch Dayan Emes.

I would like to ask anyone who knows about Rebetzin Wachtfogels ancestry to contact me. She was a second cousin to my father in law and we are looking for family information to help us fill in some blanks in our family tree.

By the way her father was R' Yisroel Shmuelevitz. Her mother (who we are related to) was a Rapoport from Brisk. There is a tradition in our family that her mothers family descends from the Vilna Gaon.

Relax, all you guys; I have nothing against Rebbetzin Wachtfogel. And Itzik, if your comment was indeed sincerely and deeply felt, I retract my comments. What I dislike is the show of emotion and the cliched, shallow response absent any deep feeling.

And to the guy who compared this to helping a Jew on the street, I don't see the comparison. Sure I'd help a person I don't know; that's my intellect operating and it tells me that I'm obligated to help. But I would rarely cry at hearing about the death of someone I didn't know, b/c the emotions just aren't there.

No, I did not have the zechus to meet Rebbetzin Wachtfogel. I do, however, know a bit about her life and mesirus nefesh. But I did have the zechus to meet others of her generation and background, and I know what a loss Klal Yisroel is suffering now that time has deprived us of their living example. As much as we try, we, who grew up in the free and materialistic atmosphere of the US or even EY cannot duplicate these living examples in our generations.

I came of age and in fact became frum at about the time that our last generation of gedoilim seemed to leave us one after the other, and I remember the great loss as if it were just yesterday. Typing this, I am transported back in time to what was perhaps my third real Purim, when the joy was pierced by news of Rav Moshe ZTL ZYA's passing.

Soon, Moshiach will be here and we will be reunited with these heiliger neshomos. When that happens, the cynics can apologize not to me, but to those whose memory they disrespect by posting nasty comments on a boruch dayan emes thread.

Kishke
If you sawa fellow jew dying in the street you would not go out to help him? You never spoke two words to him! A jew is a jew and we feel bad and get emotional when someone dies- especially someone like rebetzin wachtfogel. the mark that her husband made to america ia unfathomable. she obviously stood by his side throughout all his years as mashgiach and helped him spread mussar and hashkafa in lakewood and all over america. so we all have a part in her petira even if we never said two words to her.
kishke you should retract your earlier comments

A family member once flew continental. At the last minute we though to call (Mortuary desk: 800-253-3131) and it turned out there was a mais coming from somewhere out West. (Pinchas Mandel did not know about it). However, I think we convinced them to rebook us for the next day without charge for religious reasons, as far as I can recall.

What more can you tell us about the problem with Continental?
