Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has accepted Defense Minster Amir Peretz’s recommendation to appoint Defense Ministry Director-General Maj.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi as the IDF’s 19th Chief of General Staff on Monday afternoon. It was not yet clear when Ashkenazi would officially be appointed.
