The storm in Lakewood has pretty much left the area , aside from some lingering showers and small winds. There are many downed trees and wires, and large areas of town are without power. Many basements are flooded, and the worst flooded area, is near the lake, where a stretch of 5 blocks of South Lake Drive have become part of the lake. Irene's center has arrived in New York City after lashing the tri-state with furious flooding rain and howling winds, but the storm lost hurricane strength and arrived as a tropical storm. 350,000 Without Power In Long Island [Sunday 9:07AM EST]
More than 350,000 customers are without power on Long Island, according to the Long Island Power Authority, which provides electricity to all of the Island and the Rockaways. CNN: Hudson & East Rivers Start To Overflow [Sunday 9:00AM EST]
CNN is reporting that the East and Hudson rivers have begun to overflow in parts of Lower Manhattan. Dramatic pictures show reporters ankle-deep in river water as they stand on the pavement beside the rivers, and water sliding over the embankment near the South Street Seaport. Gas Pumps Run Dry In NYC

Hurricane Irene crashed into Little Egg Inlet at 5:40 a.m., making landfall on the New Jersey coast less than three miles from Atlantic City's Borgata hotel and casino.
