On June 11th, 2014, at approximately 10:55PM the Ramapo Police Department responded to the area of Hickory Road in the Hillcrest area for the report of a robbery. Upon arrival of responding officers, it was determined that an unknown suspect attempted to rob the victim of a cell phone. A 20-year-old New Jersey man died Tuesday after apparently drowning in a popular lake in Harriman State Park in New York, according to a report from The Journal News. State Sen. David Carlucci (D-38th District) has confirmed that the East Ramapo School District will soon have a fiscal monitor. Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be appointing a fiscal monitor for the district, which has been plagued with budget problems for years. East Ramapo Superintendent Dr. Joel Klein says he knew nothing about the decision to install a fiscal monitor in the district.
