Obama To Visit NYPD Headquarters

President Obama is expected to visit NYPD headquarters Thursday to thank law enforcement officers for their efforts in the Times Square bomb plot case, several city officials tell NBCNewYork.

A White House spokeswoman would not confirm the President’s planned visit to 1 Police Plaza — but the city is already making preparations for the downtown visit.

President Obama is due in town for a fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel later Thursday evening, the White House said.

The Commander in Chief’s planned visit to New York City comes less than two weeks after local and federal law enforcement teamed up to arrest a Pakistani-born naturalized U.S. citizen in connection with a failed plot to set off a powerful car bomb in Times Square.

Faisal Shahzad was nabbed just as he tried to leave the United States on an Emirates Air flight for Dubai.

Shahzad has admitted to the May 1 bomb plot, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said quick investigative work by federal, state and local officials led to his arrest.

Obama’s tour of New York on Thursday will also take him upstate, where he will make a stop Buffalo to discuss the economy.  He is scheduled to tour a factory and meet with workers as the White House continues to promote its jobs agenda.
