Tens Of Thousands Attend Levaya Of Rav Elazar Abuchatzeira HY”D

Tens of thousands of people on Friday attended the Levaya of Rav Elazar Abuchatzeira , who was stabbed to death Thursday night by a man seeking a Bracha at his Yeshiva in Beersheba.

Many Gedolim – including Chacham Ovadia Yosef – and Admorim, Rabbonim, as well as Israel’s chief rabbis and Charedi ministers and Knesset members, took part in the Levaya at Yeshiva Porat Yosef, which then proceeded to Har Hazeisim.

The first Hesped was delivered by his uncle, “Baba Baruch”, who wept as he said “Rabi Elazar went in the way of the Asara Harugei Malchus, and in the way of the Abuchatzeira family”.

He continued by saying “who knows what what kind of evil decree was against Klal Yisroel, and was removed with his Petira”.

He ended by asking Mechila on behalf of the entire family, and on behalf of Klal Yisroel.

The second Hesped was delivered by his eldest son, Rabi Pinchas, who wept bitter tears as he related how his father fasted for months on end, never eating meat, chicken, and most of all his Shmiras Einayim.

Hagon Chacham Ovadia Yosef followed with his Hesped and cried as he began his Hesped in the tune of Eicha, recited only on Tisha B’av.

Another Hesped was given by Rabi David Abuchatzeira, a brother of the Niftar. Rabi David’s tears flowed like a river as he related what a Tzadik his brother was.

“There was nobody in this generation who was able to perform miracles like he was”, said Rabi David.

“He was a Tzadik Yesod Olam”.

Others delivered Hespeidim as well.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai told Ynet, “It’s hard for us to talk. We’re shocked by this disaster.”

Minister Meshulam Nahari added, “Who would have thought that something like this could happen and that a rabbi could be murdered in Israel? These are difficult times for the people of Israel.”

According to an initial investigation into the murder, the rabbi received the suspect for a conversation, during which he was stabbed. The rabbi’s students captured the stabber and handed him over to the police.

Dahan’s lawyer, Attorney Yuval Livadaro of the Public Defender’s Office, said after the court session that “the suspect said he hadn’t hoped for this result and is very sorry for what happened.”

  1. the suspect said he hadn’t hoped for this result and is very sorry for what happened.

He did hope that the Rov would die after being stabbed??? What could he possibly have been thinking that could make sense of this statement? “I’m going to stab him multiple times, but I hope he doesn’t die from these wounds!!”??????
    Seriously??

  2. This is a no brainer, look at the Parsha and let Asher Dahan trot off to an Ir MIklat (find one of the Six)? What’s all the conversation the has solved Murdered by mistake, let’s not re-invent the wheel on this one! Good Shabbos and say that to the person you see walking to shul this week, that by the way is call Derech Eretz!

  3. “The suspect said he hadn’t hoped for this result and is very sorry for what happened.”

Oh, please. Give me a break.

This reminds me about what Levi Aron said regarding Leiby Kletzky, Z”L, HY”D:

“I understand this may be wrong, and I’m sorry for the hurt that I have caused.”

This MAY be wrong? He’s sorry?

  4. He doesn’t sound much different than Aron. But anyhow, why do such garbage get an audience. Obviously it won’t be something normal. I’m sure you aren’t expecting him to say, well, I felt the Rav was Mechuyav because he was Kovesh Nevuaso.

  5. A prominant poseik in England paskend (last week regarding Laiby) that we do not say Hy”d when the rotzach is a yid

  6. concerning someone who murders and doesn’t think it’s a problem, the heilige Chazal say: “האומר מותר קרוב למזיד הוא” (anyone who says that [murder] is permissible, is practically doing it on purpose)

  7. #6 should please present his name because Elisha HaNavi seems to disagree. See Melachim II 9:7. Also, I think Moshe rabbeinu disagreed too, see Shmos 21:20.

I also do not understand Rabi David’s eulogy. Is the measure of a tzaddik how many or how great the miracles are that he could perform?

What shocked me to the core was that from a historical perspective, I do not believe that a known frum Jew has ever stabbed and killed a Rav in Klal Yisroel since the murder of Gedalia ben Achikam. And that bears thinking about.
