If you are going to be machmir in what is at the very least a sfek sfek sfeika, then surely you will not use an electric shaver, which is a vadai issur according to many of the greatest poskim? And how about doing melacha before Rabbeinu Tam zman, which the majority of Rishonim regard as an issur de’oraysa? If you want to be meikel on these issues you have poskim to rely on, but for those who are not machmir on many of the serious questions that are debated amongst the poskim (I am not addressing Rabbi Roberts himself, but rather his argument) to then pick one issue that klal yisroel were traditionally meikel on and decide that davka there everyone must be machmir without even providing a coherent argument for the stringent position is more than a little strange.
