oomis, I suspect it’s not because of that. People come to my home, and I am not wealthy (and there’s no reason to think otherwise, not by where I live or what I live in). They collect at homes where they will be met with a warm reception, and avoid homes where the attitude towards them and their yeshiva will be hostile.
