“the drill” is covering over the real issue at hand. the lakewood board of ed is facing a budget shortfall. they cant raise the money because the state didnt grant a waiver on the 2% property tax increase cap, so they have to balance the budget by cutting services. one of those services proposed to be cut is “courtesy busing”. this is a budget issue. lakewooders who care should get involved in the workings of the board of ed, and start questioning its expenditures. perhaps there is money to be “found” in the budget by cutting wasteful spending. perhaps a compromise is in order, where the BOE and parents share the cost of transportation. it isnt a case where it is courtesy busing, or the busses are taken to another state. it is a question of who pays for it.
