by Wall Street’s short-sight
when democracy failed
and investors were scheming
with pinstriped suit and ties
left the markets in scars
from our sofas we watched
as the nation was screaming

of numbers high in the air
came crashing down in its flight
my savings stripped bare
oh say will that blood-spattered
dollar still reign
in the land of corporate greed
and the home of the slave

my lawn’s burly sight
It so sadly has failed
by your car’s gas that’s streaming
broad billows of smoke in a perilous flight
through ozone’s last layers, earth is drastically heating
and your gas grill’s big flare polluting the air
has ruined my plants; they are no longer here
Oh say was last winter the coolest in years?
