Manitou, there is a machloket in the Gemara whether the dead know what goes on here (Berachot 18a). See Sota 34b Tosafot d”h Avot that even the Avot do not know. See also Rambam Hilchot Taanit 4:17 that we daven in cemeteries in order to compare ourselves to dead people.
