It has been pointed out by important Rabbis that the Baal HaTurim wrote on Chumash is largely Gemattrias. And yet that Perish is acceptable as the Baal HaTurim. So while I agree that at times Gemattrias sound and seem non-sensical, if said by somebody Choshuv, they have value.
