The purpose is emphasis and to recall it easily after gone from the recent news.

Now they are so nice but Israel sold him out. First he did it for free, believing that it was the right thing to do. He was enticed to take money and became a spy and could not quit anymore.
They were suppose to save him and they left him hanging to be arrested.
