One of the largest profits in the history of currency trading was a large bet made by Soros against the British pound in the early 1990s where he made well over a billion dollars. He also made very profitable bets against several southeast Asian currencies
before the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s and again more recently when he shorted the Japanese yen while betting on Japanese stocks for substantial profits. No evidence took substantial net short positions against the dollar, although I’m sure his funds, along with just about every other hedge fund at various points in time may have hedged their dollar denominated positions.
