@5783 please see the sefer yechi HaMelech HaMoshiach which shows the halachic reasoning as to the Rebbe being considered bchezkas Moshiach. The sefer as well as the psak din had many non chabad rebonim sign including Reb ovadia yosef and rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu and rabbi Pinchus Hirschprug among many others.
