As mentioned, there does not seem to be any source for the assumption of the OP.
Pidyon Shevuyim is a Mitzvah, with no strings attached.
It is not at all unlikely that someone redeemed from captivity may well change for the better. Either way, it is almost gaurenteed that they will perform more Mitzvos afterward then in captivity.
