My sister and I are hoping to visit the kaufman’s Bungalow colony of our childhood and are having trouble finding it. Wondering if this is the same one. I am 49 and we went to Kaufman’s in the 60’s through about ’71 or ’72.
Back in those days there was a concession that Katz’s Bakery from Liberty delivered hot fresh glazed doughnuts to every morning. In that same building around back was a game room where we only went on rainy days.
There was a summer day camp for much of the summer where we had organized sports, crafts and colour wars.
Way at the back of the property was large square clearing with tall grass and a hugh old tree in the center- affectionately known as The Lone Tree.
I don’t recall a Shul on the grounds in those days. During the week our mom’s played canasta or mah jong and we kids spent the nights around barnfires or telling ghost stories on the screened porches of the bungalows of our friends lucky enough to reside in one of the few bungalows that had a screened in porch.
Could this be the same place you are chatting about? Very close to the Monticello raceway?
Thanks
