Joseph, it’s nice to hear you assert yourself again. It’s been boring.

So are you saying that a Yid is not allowed to read or listen to the news? That’s a pretty dangerous position to take. Sure, I don’t need to know that Yankel Berel got a traffic ticket for not moving his car far enough (not that any LH was involved there) but I do need to know, and be able to respond to, news that affects financial and regulatory markets, even if the events involve someone with a Jewish name. I may have to respond to such news. When someone is reported as being involved or arrested for chicanery, if he is a Yid it affects how I am perceived by others. I need to know it – whether or not I am allowed to believe it. A news story can have an impact no matter if I believe it or not. Avoiding the news can be damaging.

And artchill brings up a great point about using the LH screen as a way of covering up issues that really need to be dealt with.

The focus should be on learning the halachos that apply to how we are allowed to accept and deal with the news, rather than on how to avoid hearing it.
