There is a non-denominational (all religions) support group called Recovery. It is all over the world. There is a frum group at the Y in Boro Park and I think one frum group in Flatbush. They follow a 10 step program and it is very powerful and positive and has helped many people. There is no charge for attending the meetings. They pass a plate around and anyone can contribute or not contribute whatever they are able to.
This group will not take the place of a therapist for those who need therapy but has helped many individuals who are also in therapy and many who are not.
It is an annonymous group and people only say their first names. You would be very suprised at the people who attend meetings, professionals, etc. Recovery helps many people.
Many times meetings are held in a room in a church or sometimes in a shul. It is not held in the sanctuary and one may ask a shylah but I personally know people who were told that they could go by very choshove Rabbonim.
To find a Recovery meeting in your area google Recover, Inc. and you can get a list of meetings.
