SJSinNYC – Since you recently had a baby, and haven’t exercised in a while, strengthening your pelvis is very important for when you are beginning a workout routine. There are several pelvic exercises you can do, that just use your own body weight and don’t require pricy equipment.
The next best thing to start doing, is strengthening your core. Pilates &/or Yoga, are excellent ways to accomplish that.
Walking is a great way to get your body used to moving around and a safe way to jump in to the workout world.
You can start doing push ups, & crunches – there are several types of workouts you can do for each. I’ll tell you from experience, that those exercises are really amazing when it comes to toning.
If you want to start running, then intervals are the best way to get there. When going for a walk, start running for about 30 seconds – 1 minute, then stop running and continue walking, then after a few minutes, run again then stop and continue walking. Repeat these steps until you can no longer physically do anymore. Every day you go out for a walk, add a little more time to running, and a little less time walking. In time, this will build your endurance up enough to cut out walking altogether and be a sole runner.
P.S.-The times I wrote are only examples, your walk and run time will vary, depending on your fitness level. Have a goal to finish at least one mile and calculate how much running you want to include with your walk.
Also, let your doctor know you want to start a workout routine. It is very unlikely for your doctor to disapprove of this, unless you had some health condition that restricts you from performing certain exercises.
And another thing, try to see if any of your friends want to start to work out as well. Having a partner in this is very helpful, and motivating.
Hope this helped. Good Luck!
